What is LOPSA-NJ

LOPSA-NJ is a Users’ Group for System Administrators in the New Jersey area.

Or, more formally:

LOPSA-NJ, like our parent organization LOPSA, is dedicated to the advancement of the profession and practice of System Administration. Toward those ends, this chapter aims to facilitate building a community of local contacts for us to share our experiences, solutions, tips and techniques on addressing the technical and professional issues we encounter.

We are a platform agnostic organization, like LOPSA itself, and, as such, we welcome and encourage network managers, Windows and UNIX systems administrators, desktop support technicians, and anyone else that manages computer systems to join our community.

When and where are the meetings?

Meetings are generally on the 1st Thursday of the month. We have General Meetings (with a speaker, topic, or event) and Cluster Groups.

General Meetings

Meetings with speakers are usually held at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library.

These meetings usually begin with 30 minutes of "social" time, then 5-10 minutes of announcements and business. There is a maximum 10-minute "announce job openings/seekings" time. Then the speaker(s) talk(s) until they are out of breath or the building is being shut down. Afterwards people often go out to a diner for a bite to eat.

Cluster Groups

A cluster group is when we meet at a diner and gab about whatever is on our mind. It is part social and plenty technical. These meetings are scheduled about 2 times a year.
